Priority date

A priority date is the date of filing of an earlier application for which priority is claimed in accordance with Article 87 EPC.

In the "Priority date" field the default operator is OR. This means that you can enter up to ten dates simply separated by a space.

You can use any of the following formats:

  • YYYYMMDD (four digits for the year, two digits for the month and two digits for the day)

  • YYYYMM

  • YYYY

  • DD/MM/YYYY

  • MM/YYYY

  • YYYY-MM-DD

  • DD.MM.YYYY

  • MM.YYYY

For example, if you enter 19961023, you will find applications having 23 October 1996 as priority date.

If you enter 199610, you will find applications having a priority date in October 1996.

If you enter 1996, you will find applications with a priority date in 1996.

A date range search is not possible in the Priority date field.
