What is a cited document?

A cited document can be a document cited by the examiner in a search report or by the applicant. It can be a patent document or an item of non-patent literature (XP) which can be viewed by clicking on the corresponding link.

What does the letter in square brackets next to the publication number stand for?

The letter in square brackets stands for the category of document. For a list of categories click on "more...".

What is non-patent literature?

In addition to patent literature, the EPO's search documentation includes any other printed or non-printed matter that may be technically relevant for the patent-granting procedure. This is referred to as "non-patent literature" (NPL).
